The one-dose vaccine against Covid from the Janssen company will be administered to pregnant women and lactating mothers, as confirmed by the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE), organism that advises the World Health Organization (WHO).
This is the first vaccine approved, either by the WHO or any other regulatory national body, for pregnant women since the general recommendation to date was postponing immunization until the end of the pregnancy.
According to SAGE, the vaccine is not only efficient but it is also highly safe. In fact, performing a Covid-19 test prior to the vaccination is not necessary, neither it is delaying pregnancy following immunization.
The Janssen vaccine will soon be available in Spain (it is expected to arrive on April 15th, with 21 million doses available). It is also the first approved vaccine requiring only one dose to achieve immunity against coronavirus.
