A basic sterility study is based on a series of tests to rule out the main causes of infertility.
Basic Seminogram
Gives information on sperm count, motility and mobility.
Gynaecological Ultrasound Scan
This is (typically) a transvaginal ultrasound scan that a gynaecologist performs to evaluate the characteristics of the uterus, endometrium and ovaries (size, position, antral follicle count…).
Basal hormone test
A blood test is performed between the first and third day of the menstrual cycle and assesses both ovarian reserve and hormone levels.
Hysterosalpingography
This is a contrast radiography during which a radiologist administers a special dye through the cervix allowing the evaluation of the uterine cavity and permeability of fallopian tubes. This test is not always required.
Depending on the results and considering patient´s medical history, other tests may be required.
