Genetic compatibility testing, also known as “genetic matching”, is a cutting-edge technique that allows us to compare the analysis of the couple’s genes to ensure that both are not carriers of the same pathology, thus preventing the embryos resulting from a reproduction treatment from being affected by it.
It is performed on both members of the couple if both provide their gametes, or in the case of donations, on the person who provides the egg or sperm. We can detect up to 16,595 different mutations.
These recessive diseases are rare, but are usually serious and have a poor prognosis, such as cystic fibrosis.
The process involves performing a genetic analysis on both parents and comparing the results to check if both are carriers of the same disease. If positive, there is a 25% chance that the embryo will receive the disease.
If any incompatibility is found, we recommend performing a Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) to select embryos that do not carry the disease.
