In traditional IVF, the woman undergoes hormonal stimulation to obtain eggs. These are placed in a culture plate with the previously prepared semen sample, so that the natural fertilization process can take place. Once the egg is fertilized, it is implanted in the uterus to achieve pregnancy.
This technique has gradually fallen into disuse, being replaced by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), with much higher pregnancy rates.
It is usually used when there are important factors that prevent pregnancy and is especially recommended when there is male infertility, since it is not necessary for the sperm to move in order to carry it out. Instead of allowing fertilization to occur in the culture dish, our biologists select the best sperm from the seminal sample and introduce it into a microneedle to then inject it into the egg.
