Embryology Laboratory
Its purpose is to be able to carry out the union between the egg and the spermto create an embryo and make it develop until the blastocyst phase (day 5 or 6) so that it can later be transferred to the woman’s uterus. It is located in an area next to the operating room, where oocyte extractions and embryo transfers are carried out.
Our laboratory has three types of incubators (Embryoscope, Labotec C60 y Ksystem Benchtop), todos ellos con un sistema de monitorización y control continuo de parámetros (temperatura, CO2 y O2), sistema de alarma y aviso en caso de fallo. También cuenta con el soporte de la Inteligencia Artificial: una tecnología puntera en el mundo llamada IDASCore y KIDScore. Algoritmos morfocinéticos para una óptima selección embrionaria. Esta IA analiza cada uno de los embriones de la paciente, relacionando sus patrones de desarrollo y contrastándolos con información recopilada de millones de embriones de todo el mundo. Así, identifica y clasifica aquellos que tienen más posibilidades de implantarse y evolucionar, logrando el embarazo.
As far as security is concerned, everything must be controlled in detail:
•Embryonic development is monitored 24 hours a day, and is also carried out in individual cultures. Temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide and oxygen levels are controlled to imitate the body’s natural conditions.
•Horizontal laminar flow cabinets are used to avoid contamination of samples and culture media.
• The lighting is warm and adjustable so as not to affect the samples.
•The culture media and consumables are always CE marked («Conformité Européenne», it complies with mandatory legislation on essential requirements) and embryo tested so that they do not alter the final result.
•It has an air handling unit (AHU) system suitable for the required level of environmental quality, an uninterrupted power supply system for critical equipment (which will provide sufficient autonomy in the event of a power supply failure) and an uninterrupted supply system for medical gases to equipment that requires it.
•All this control is completed with the requirement to use non-porous, smooth materials free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Andrology laboratory
Where seminal samples are processed and prepared. It is located as close as possible to the sample collection room so that it can be processed as quickly as possible.
Cryopreservation area
This is the space where both gametes (eggs and semen) and embryos are vitrified and maintained before their transfer. It is also where the oocytes of patients who have chosen to preserve their fertility are kept. It is equipped with various cryogenic containers, where biological samples are stored at a temperature of -196ºC. One of these banks is enabled solely for the storage of serodiscordant samples. In addition, it has a specific container for transferring gametes and embryos between centers, laboratories or hospitals.
These liquid nitrogen banks allow samples to be vitrified indefinitely without any negative effects.
